SALT CLAY
1 c. salt
2 c. flour
1 c. water
Oil of cloves or oil of wintergreen, several drops
Vegetable coloring

Mix salt and flour with water to consistency of heavy dough. Add oil of cloves or oil of wintergreen, mixing thoroughly. This acts as a preservative. Coloring can be kneaded into clay, or object can be made first, then colored with water colors. This recipe makes about 12 pictures or small objects. If a little more moisture is added and the dough is cooked over low heat and stirring until it is very thick, the clay will retain its shape better.

Many interesting projects can be made from salt clay. Easy to use, simple to prepare, and washes off hands easily. When making pictures or picture frames always shellac cardboard to keep it from absorbing the clay moisture. Mold clay to show desired features, allow time to dry - about 2 days; then paint with water colors if coloring was not added to clay mixture.
