MELT-IN-YOUR-MOUTH FEATHERLIGHT
BISCUITS
 
2 c. all purpose flour
4 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. Crisco or lard
2/3 c. milk

Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar and salt. Cut in Crisco or lard until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Make a well in center and add milk all at once. Stir until mixture becomes dough and clings together. Can be kneaded at this point on floured surface for cut biscuits or simply dropped by tablespoonful onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Makes 8 to 13.
