EGYPTIAN HOROSET | |
1 lb. raisins 8 oz. pitted dates 2 c. water 1/4 c. sugar 1/4 c. chopped walnuts or pecans Place the raisins and dates in a bowl with enough water to cover. Let stand for 1 hour. Add the sugar and put the mixture, about 1/3 at a time, in food processor and chop. Remove the chopped fruit from the processor each time and put into a saucepan. When you have placed all your chopped fruits in the saucepan, turn heat on low, until the mixture simmers. Let the fruit mixture simmer until fruits are cooked and the liquid is absorbed, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and place in a jar. When cool, sprinkle with chopped nuts. Use as a spread to eat on toast, biscuits, waffles, etc., or as a meal accompaniment. |
