BIG APPLE PIZZA
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
5 tbsp. cold water

Sift or mix flour and salt together. Cut in shortening using pastry blender, until pieces are size of small peas. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon water over part of mixture. Gently toss with fork. Add another tablespoonful and toss. Continue until all water is used. Mixture will be very dry. Use hands to pull dough together. Work until dough holds in a ball.

Cover pizza pan with foil. Place dough on foil. Flatten, until dough covers entire pan plus small rim around edge. Dough is spread thin.

Core three medium apples - leave skin on. Slice into crescent shaped pieces approximately 1/4 inch thick. Arrange apple slices on pastry dough, overlapping slices in circles starting at outside edge.

TOPPING #1:

1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle this mixture over arranged apples and pastry.

TOPPING #2:

6 tbsp. flour
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter

Combine flour and sugar; cut in butter with pastry blender until butter pieces are quite small and mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle this mixture over the assembled pizza.

Bake in hot oven 450 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or until crust is brown and apples are done. Cut pie in wedges and serve warm.

(Teenagers especially like to make this - they can really get creative!)
