JELLY FILLED SUGAR COOKIES
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 beaten eggs
1 tsp. milk
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 1/4 c. grape jelly
Sugar

In a bowl combine flour and baking powder. In another bowl blend butter and 1/2 cup sugar. Gradually stir in remaining sugar, eggs, milk and lemon juice. Add flour mixture. Blend thoroughly. Chill dough well in refrigerator. Divide dough in half. Roll each half separately on a floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut same number of cookies in each roll with a greased knife.

Place 1 teaspoon of jelly in the center of half the cookies. Top with remaining cookies. Gently press cookie edges together. Sprinkle with sugar. On greased cookie sheets bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes until edges brown lightly. Remove sheet to a rack. Let stand 10 minutes. Yields: 3 dozen.
