CHOCOLATE MERINGUE SQUARES 
3/4 c. soft butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
3 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
6 oz. pkg. chocolate bits
3/4 c. nuts

TOPPING:

1 c. brown sugar
3 egg whites

Blend first 4 ingredients. Beat for 2 minutes. Stir in next 4 ingredients until well blended. Spread batter into a well greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Top with nuts and bits.

Beat 3 egg whites and brown sugar until stiff. Spread over all ingredients. Bake 35-40 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Cut into squares.
