APPLE CAKE AND ICING 
1 stick butter
1/4 c. canned cream
Pinch salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. light brown sugar

Make icing first. Mix together and let come to good boil. Set aside, let stand while you make and bake the cake (recipe follows).

APPLE CAKE:

1 1/4 c. Mazola oil
3 eggs
2 c. white sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla
3 c. plain flour
1 c. chopped nuts
3 c. chopped apples

Mix well the oil, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Sift soda, baking powder, 2 1/2 cups flour and salt together. Save 1/2 cup flour to dredge nuts and apples. Add flour to eggs, sugar and oil and mix with spoon. Add apples and nuts and mix well. Looks sugary but don't worry. Pour into greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. START IN COLD OVEN. Bake at 325 degrees for 55 to 60 minutes. When cake is done, pour icing over top of cake. Sprinkle with a few nuts; let stand until cool.
