CHEWY RAISIN OATMEAL COOKIES 
Combine in a saucepan:

3/4 c. raisins
1/4 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. shortening (not butter)

Heat only until shortening is melted. Remove from heat.

Add:

1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon

Stir together.

Add:

1 1/2 cups oatmeal

Drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet. Cool on rack immediately.

Bake 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees.
