MYRTLE'S OLD FASHIONED APPLESAUCE CAKE | |
2/3 c. shortening 1 c. brown sugar 1 1/4 c. white sugar 3 eggs 1 3/4 c. thick applesauce, unsweetened 3 c. flour 3/4 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. cloves 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 3/4 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. allspice 1/2 c. dates or raisins, chopped Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix sugar, shortening, eggs and applesauce. Soak raisins or dates in little hot water. Take 1/2 cup water from raisins and put soda in it. I drain raisins and put nuts in, if you wish and dust with flour. Add spices and flour. Beat well. I do not use a mixer. Put in greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Also makes lovely cupcakes. FROSTING: 1 c. brown sugar 3/4 stick butter 1/4 c. milk Bring to boil. Cook 3 to 5 minutes. Add powdered sugar to spread. Never fails and is good. |
