CHALLAH 
2 c. lukewarm water
2 pkgs. yeast
8 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 sticks butter
5 eggs, use 1 for glaze

Mix water and yeast in a big bowl. Add 3 cups flour and 1 cup sugar. Stir with fork and place in warm area and wait 1/2 hour for dough to rise. In another bowl measure 5 cups flour, salt and 1/2 cup sugar. Add butter. At the end of 1/2 hour add 4 beaten eggs to the yeast mixture and stir well. Add flour and butter mixture to the yeast mixture in the bowl. If too sticky, gradually add up to 2 cups flour. Knead on board until smooth and elastic. Place in an oiled bowl and cover with a towel. Place in warm area and allow about 2 hours for dough to rise, punch down. Knead lightly. Divide dough into 4ths, then braid. Place in oiled loaf pans. Cover. Allow 3 to 5 hours to rise. Brush top with beaten egg. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
