APPLE CRISP
1 c. rolled oats (quick cooking or regular)
1/2 c. sifted enriched flour
1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. butter
4 c. peeled, sliced tart apples (Granny Smith)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place rolled oats, flour, sugar, salt and cinnamon in a mixing bowl and mix to blend. Add soft butter and blend well with pastry blender or fork. Arrange peeled, sliced apples in buttered 8x8x2 inch or 2 quart baking dish. Spread oatmeal mixture on top of apples and press down lightly. Bake 30 minutes or until topping is brown and apples are tender when tested with a fork. Cut into squares. Serve warm or cold with milk, cream of vanilla ice cream, if desired.

Variation: Can also use 4 cups sliced apricots or peeled, sliced peaches in place of apples.
