BAKER'S CLAY DECORATIONS
4 c. flour
1 c. salt
1 1/2 c. water

This technique makes inedible decorations that resemble baked treats but last for years and years.

Combine flour and salt. Gradually add water until mixture is a putty-like consistency. Knead dough for five minutes to thoroughly blend ingredients.

Roll out to 1/4 thickness on floured surface; cut with cookie cutter. If cutter sticks in dough, dip into flour before cutting.

Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 325 degrees until light brown (about 1/2 hour), or air dry on cooling rack for 48 hours.

Pierce with a drinking straw or toothpick before baking if you plan to hang decorations.

Coat dry baker's clay decorations with a clear thin shellac or clear nail polish for a fresh baked look. Or, paint with watercolors, acrylic paints, or enamel paints. When dry coat with clear protective coating.
