NUTTY LEMON MERINGUE SQUARES 
1/2 c. butter, softened
2 tsp. grated lemon rind
1/2 c. powdered sugar
2 eggs, separated
1 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 c. slivered almonds, roasted

Mix butter with lemon rind, powdered sugar and egg yolks. Beat well. Sift flour with salt. Blend into butter mixture. Spread with spatula in 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually beat in sugar and lemon juice and continue beating until stiff. Spread over baked layer and sprinkle with almonds. Return to oven and bake 20 minutes longer or until lightly browned. Cool and cut into squares.
