MOLASSES SUGAR COOKIE 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. baking soda

Cream shortening, gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add egg and molasses. Combine flour, soda, cinnamon, salt, ginger, and cloves and mix well. Add about 1/4 of the dry mixture at a time to the creamed mixture. Mix until smooth after each addition. Chill 1 hour.

Roll dough into 1 inch balls and roll in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Top will crack. Yields about 4 1/2 dozen.
