GINGER CAKE 
5 tbsp. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. molasses
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. sour milk
1 3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream shortening, sugar and egg together. Stir in molasses. Dissolve soda in sour milk. Mix and sift flour, ginger, cinnamon and salt. Add the sour milk to the first mixture. Turn into a greased shallow pan. Bake in hot oven, 375 degrees, for 25 to 30 minutes. Serve hot with whipped cream or a lemon sauce.
