BUTTERSCOTCH ICEBOX COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in small amount of hot water
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

Cream butter, sugar and eggs; add baking soda and vanilla. Sift flour and cream of tartar into the creamed mixture. Mix well. Roll or shape into a loaf; wrap in waxed paper. Let stand overnight.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Slice cookies and bake at 350°F for 12 minutes. Remove to rack to cool.
