HAMBURGERS WITH "HOT" BARBEQUE
SAUCE

1 tbsp. oil
1 c. tomato catsup
1/4 c. white vinegar
3 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp. water
2 tbsp. prepared horseradish
2 tbsp. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1 lb. ground beef (lean)

1. In a saucepan combine first 9 ingredients.

2. Heat sauce until simmering (about 15 minutes).

3. Shape meat into 4 patties about 1 inch thick. Brush both sides with some sauce.

4. Grill hamburger patties outside, or oven grill in a pan, indoors, turning patties 4-5 minutes per side for medium rare.

5. Serve hamburgers with additional sauce.

Note: For well done hamburgers, baste the barbeque sauce only the last 15 minutes of cooking. Cooking the sauce too long will make the spices bitter.

For that special outdoor flavor, toss moistened hickory chips or sawdust on coals a few minutes before meat is put on the grill. Serve with fresh roast corn with butter and tomato and onion slices or green salad.
