ORANGE DATE BARS 
1 c. chopped dates
1/3 c. sugar
1/3 c. vegetable oil
1/2 c. orange juice
1 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. grated orange rind

Combine dates, sugar, and oil in a saucepan. Cook 5 minutes to soften dates; cool. Add remaining ingredients. Spread in oiled 8 x 8 inch baking pan. Bake in 350 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool before cutting. Makes 36 bars (1 bar about 56 calories). Good for diabetics - food exchange, 1/2 starch, bread, and 1/2 fat.
