CORNBREAD 
1 c self-rising cornmeal
1 c buttermilk
1 egg
2 tbsp cooking oil
1/4 tsp baking soda

Heat oven to 450°F.

Pour cornmeal in a bowl. Measure buttermilk and add baking soda, stir until dissolved. Mix cornmeal, buttermilk-soda mixture, egg, and cooking oil. Pour enough cooking oil in the bottom of an iron skillet to cover the bottom. Place skillet in oven until warm. Pour cornmeal mixture in skillet. Cook until brown.
