LEMON CHEESE CAKE 
1 c. butter or Crisco
2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. baking powder
3 c. cake flour, sifted
3/4 c. milk
6 egg whites

Mix all ingredients but egg whites together. Beat egg whites stiffly and then fold into mixture. Pour into 3 greased and floured layer cake pans and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

FILLING AND ICING:

3/4 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
9 egg yolks
3 lemons, grated rind and juice

Combine and cook over hot water in double-boiler until thick. Stir until cool, then spread between layers and on sides of cake. Garnish with orange twists if desired.

For less tartness, use only 2 lemons.
