2 c. sifted flour 4 tsp. baking powder 2 tsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar 1/2 c. shortening 2/3 c. milk Mix together, sifted flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cream of tartar. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in center and add milk all at once. Stir quickly until dough follows fork around bowl. Turn onto lightly floured surface and knead 10 to 12 times. Roll or pat dough to 1/2" thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter dipped in flour. Bake on ungreased baking sheet in 450 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes. |
