COFFEE CAKE 
3 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. mace
2 sticks butter, softened
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

TOPPING:

1/2 stick butter
1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. chopped walnuts

Mix butter into flour and sugar. Add nuts. Stir.

Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and mace. Cut in (or mix in by hand) the butter to form fine crumbs. Add eggs, milk and vanilla. Stir until blended. Spread half of batter in bottom of 9 x 13 inch greased baking pan.

Spread filling evenly over batter. Drop remaining batter by small spoonfuls over filling; spread. Spread topping on top of cake. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes.
