3 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3 tsp. baking powder
1 c. shortening
4 egg whites
2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. milk

Sift dry ingredients together. Cream shortening and sugar. Add yolks and vanilla and beat well. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into batter. This is a large cake and should be baked in 3 layers. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
