PRUNE CAKE | |
1 c. shortening 1 c. nuts 1 1/2 c. sugar 1 c. stewed prunes 2 tbsp. cocoa 1 c. sour milk 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. allspice 1 3/4 c. flour 1 tsp. baking soda 3 eggs Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and beat, add sour milk 1/4 at a time. Mix dry ingredients together, add the rest of the milk and mix well. Add prunes and nuts. Bake in a moderate 350 degree oven for 35 or 40 minutes. Bake in layer pan. PRUNE CAKE FROSTING: 2 c. sugar 2 tbsp. cocoa 1/2 c. butter 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. sour milk Cook until it forms a soft ball in cold water when cooked. Add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and vanilla and beat. Spread on top and sides. |
