SPONGE CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1 c. flour
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder
4 tbsp. water

To well beaten egg yolks add water and sugar; beat well. Add flour, baking powder and vanilla. Fold in well beaten egg whites. Bake in bread pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes. Test with a toothpick.

ICE BOX CAKE FILLING: Melt 1 square chocolate in double boiler. Add 1/2 cup hot water slowly, stirring constantly. Add 1/2 cup sugar and 4 beaten egg yolks. Cook and stir until thickens. Cool.

Cream 2 cubes butter with 1 cup powdered sugar. Add first mixture to this and flavor with vanilla. Add 4 stiffly beaten egg whites. Put this between sponge cakes, cut into 2 layers and refrigerate.
