BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
8 or 9 qt. cucumbers
6 medium onions
2 green peppers
3 cloves garlic
1/3 c. salt
5 c. sugar
3 c. vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mustard seed

Slice cucumbers; add cut up onions and bell peppers. Add whole garlic cloves and salt. Cover with cracked ice. Let stand 3 hours. Drain well.

Combine remaining ingredients and pour over cucumber mixture. Heat just to boil. Put into jars and seal. Should make 8 pints.
