CHRISTMAS SOUR CREAM COOKIES 
Cream 1 cup sugar with 1/2 cup butter. Add 1 beaten egg and 1 cup sour cream to which 1 teaspoon baking soda has been added. I usually stir the sour cream and soda until I get a hollow sound. Add 1 teaspoon salt, then add 2 1/2 to 3 cups flour. The dough should be fairly soft. Roll out and cut. Sprinkle with sugar, colored or plain. Bake at 400 degrees for approximately 7 minutes. WATCH CLOSELY.

While I haven't prepared this exact recipe, it's very similar to my great-grandmother's, which has been a family favorite for at least 5 generations now. Hers adds a teaspoon of vanilla and one of nutmeg for a lovely subtle flavor.
