2 c. flour
1 1/3 c. sugar
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 to 2/3 c. eggs

Sift together the first 7 ingredients. Beat well the next 4 ingredients then add the dry ingredients. Makes 2 (9 inch) pans. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

ICING WITH VANILLA CREAM FROSTING:

1 box 10x sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
3 to 4 tbsp. milk

Cream together and spread over cake.
