COMMON CHIP COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3 c. oats (old fashion)

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Melt butter. Add sugars; mix well. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add combined flour and baking soda and salt. Mix well. Stir in oats. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. I use unshiny side of foil. Bake 8 to 10 minutes; 8 for chewy - 10 for crisp. Cool 4 minutes on cookie sheet. Store tightly covered. 4 1/2 dozen.
