GRANDPA BROWNIE'S SUGARED
WALNUTS (CHRISTMAS)
 
1 1/4 cups light brown sugar
1/4 cup cream
1 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups walnut pieces (or whole almonds)

Mix sugar, cream, butter and cinnamon and salt well in a 2-quart pot or pan. Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat.

Place candy thermometer in the mixture and continue cooking it to 244°F (firm ball stage), stirring constantly. Remove pot from heat and add vanilla and nuts. Continue stirring until candy crystallizes/ grains on the nuts.

Spread the nuts on wax paper on a cookie sheet and let it cool.

Makes about 1 1/4 lb.
