GRANDMA'S RECIPE FOR SWEDISH RYE
BREAD
 
2 c. milk, scalded
1/2 c. molasses
2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
2 tsp. anise seed (optional)
3/4 c. brown sugar
2 pkgs. yeast
4 c. Bohemian Rye's wheat flour
Enough white flour to get desired thickness

Scald milk. Add shortening, melt yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Add sugar, molasses, salt, anise seed and yeast to milk and shortening. After mixture is cool, add Bohemian flour, a little at a time. Add white flour to get desired thickness.

Knead, let rise in greased bowl. Knead, cut in half to make into 2 loaves. Let rise in greased pan until doubled in size. Bake 20 minutes at 400 degrees; then 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
