MY MOTHER'S WHOOPIE PIES 
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
5 tbsp. Hershey's cocoa
5 tbsp. shortening
2 c. flour
1 c. milk
1 egg

FILLING:

1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
1/2 c. marshmallow fluff
1/2 c. shortening (part butter)
1 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Sift flour, cocoa, and baking soda.

Mix flour, cocoa, baking soda, sugar, shortening, milk and egg together thoroughly. Drop by large spoonfuls on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake approximately 8 minutes at 425 degrees. Cool completely.

Make filling: Mix shortening, confectioners' sugar, marshmallow and vanilla together until smooth and creamy. Frost the "whoopie pie" bottoms and put the two together. Makes about 1 1/2 dozen.
