ALMOND COFFEE CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/3 c. sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1/2 c. milk

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Cut in shortening. Beat egg lightly and combine with milk. Add to dry mixture and stir only until all ingredients are moistened. Spread in greased 8 inch square pan. Sprinkle with topping.

Bake in moderately hot oven, 375 degrees, about 25 to 30 minutes, until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cut squares and serve hot.

TOPPING:

2/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 c. butter
1 1/2 tsp. grated orange rind
1/3 c. chopped or diced almonds
