DAD'S BAKERY BREAD | |
4 c. water (lukewarm) 3 pkgs. yeast 1 1/4 c. milk powder 1/2 c. sugar 2/3 c. shortening 3 tsp. salt 10-11 c. flour For whole wheat bread use 5 cups whole wheat flour and 5 cups white flour. Dissolve yeast in the water. Add milk powder and sugar; stir. Add 2 cups of flour; mix. Add shortening and salt; mix. Add remaining flour a cup at a time. Knead 15-20 minutes on a floured surface. Place in greased bowl to rise. Punch down when it has risen to twice its size (about 1 hour). Repeat. Punch down and form individual loaves. Let rise again until double. Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown 30-40 minutes. Makes 5-6 small loaves or 3 large. |
