MA-MAW HERRON'S ORANGE SLICE
CAKE
 
2 sticks butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
3 1/2 c. plain flour
1 sm. box dates, chopped
1 c. Angel Flake coconut
1 c. chopped pecans
1 lb. bag orange slice candy, chopped

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs one at a time, beating each time. Use the 1/2 cup flour to roll the candy, dates and nuts in. Sift remaining flour and soda. Add this alternately with the milk to the butter, sugar and egg mixture. Add coconut and mix with the candy mixture. Pour into a greased tube pan with wax paper in the bottom. Bake in 250 degree oven for 2 1/2 hours or until toothpick comes out clean.

GLAZE:

2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. orange juice
2 tbsp. grated orange rind

Mix well and pour over hot cake. Let stand several hours.
