TUNA HELPER SANS LIQUID MILK | |
Tuna Helper / Tuna Tetrazzini 1 can Tuna in water 4 tbsp. butter 3 cups cold water 5 Borden Deli Trio Slices (blend of Swiss, provolone, mozzarella) Milk, Whey, Skim Milk, Milk Protein Concentrate, Cream, Calcium Phosphate, Sodium Citrate, Contains 2% Or Less of: Whey Protein Concentrate, Salt, Citric Acid, Sorbic Acid (Preservative), Sodium Phosphate, Natural Smoke Flavor. Contains: Milk. ) As a single person, I am usually out of milk because it goes bad quickly on me before I can consume it. I came across an alternative for Tuna Helper and am sharing how I substituted the liquid milk with a cheese made mostly of milk. I'm planning on doing this more often since the cheese has a better shelf life than bottled milk! The cheese has been in my refrigerator unused until I read the ingredients and saw milk in them as first ingredient... then I got this idea to use up pantry products and it tastes great. I made the mixture in the microwave in this way. Put water, butter, and unwrapped cheese slices in a large bowl. Make sure that the cheese slices are under the water to avoid them making a microwave mess. Microwave for 2 minutes then stir. The cheese should have started melting and fallen to the bottom of the bowl. Microwave again for 3 minutes then stir. The slices and butter should be completely melted while the water mixture is now colored like milk and water combined. Next, add the contents of the Tuna Helper box (seasoning and pasta) along with the drained contents of the can of tuna. Stir then microwave finally for 8 minutes. Remove bowl from microwave allowing mixture to cool for about 5 minutes to thicken. Serve. Submitted by: nina |
