MOLASSES COOKIES 
3/4 c. soft shortening (Crisco)
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. dark molasses
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. ginger

Mix first 4 ingredients. Sift together the dry ingredients. Add to first mixture and mix thoroughly. Form into balls about the size of small walnuts. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 375 degrees. (Cookies will crack on top.) Roll in confectioners' sugar while still warm. Makes 4 to 5 dozen.
