3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. cloves
3/4 tsp. ginger
Confectioners' sugar

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and molasses thoroughly. Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting. Blend dry ingredients. Stir into shortening mixture. Form in 1 inch balls. Place about 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes. Roll in confectioners' sugar while still warm.
