CALIFORNIA CHILI 
2 lbs. ground beef
2 c. chopped onion
1 c. diced green pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 c. chili powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. dried leaf oregano
1 tsp. ground cumin
1 to 2 tsp. liquid red hot pepper sauce
1 tsp. instant coffee powder
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
1 can (1 lb.) tomato
1 c. water
2 cans (1 lb. each) red kidney beans drained (optional)

In a large heavy saucepan, break up ground beef. Add onion, green pepper, and garlic; cook stirring frequently, until beef is browned and vegetables are tender. Add chili powder, salt, paprika, oregano, ground cumin, liquid hot pepper sauce, coffee, tomatoes, tomato sauce and water; stir well. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered 45 minutes or until thickened. If desired stir in kidney beans before serving.
