CANDY CANE COOKIES 
1 c. confectioners' sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. red food coloring

Mix butter, shortening, sugar, egg and flavorings. Mix flour and salt; stir in. Divide dough in half. Blend red food coloring into half of the dough.

Roll 1 teaspoon each color onto a floured board into a 4 inch long strip. Place the strips side by side and twist into a candy cane. Put on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake 9 minutes in a 375 degree oven. Sprinkle with sugar.
