APPLE CREAM PIE | |
1 pie crust for 9-inch pie plate 5 lg. baking apples 2 tbsp. lemon juice 1 c. sugar 3/4 c. flour 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 stick butter 1 c. whipping cream 1/4 lb. unsliced American cheese, peeled and curled Prepare pie crust. Pare, quarter, and core apples. Then halve each quarter crosswise. Place in a large bowl and sprinkle with lemon juice. Mix 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour and nutmeg and sprinkle over apples, tossing to coat well. Spoon into prepared shell. Mix 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup flour and cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples. Cover loosely with foil and place on large cookie sheet. Bake in 425 degree oven 45 minutes. Remove from oven and drizzle 1/2 cup cream over pie. Bake uncovered 15 more minutes. Remove pie from oven and place on wire rack to cool. Drizzle remaining 1/2 cup cream over pie and let cool for 1 hour. Serve plain or with cheese curls. |
