3 sticks (1 1/2 c.) butter
3 c. sugar
5 eggs
1 c. milk
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
3 1/2 c. cake or all purpose flour

Blend butter and sugar until smooth. Add 1 egg at a time, blending well after each, until 5 eggs have been added. Blend in milk, vanilla, salt, and flour. Pour into tube pan and bake in cool oven at 275 degrees for 1 1/2 hours or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
