SODA COOKIES 
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. lard
1 c. sour or buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
4 to 6 c. stone ground flour (ground at Cedar Creek Grist Mill)

Cream sugar, egg and lard together; add sour milk, vanilla and nutmeg. Sift soda, baking powder and salt with the flour; mix to a stiff dough. Roll out on floured board about 1/8 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutter. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 275-300 degrees until done.
