OLD FASHIONED BAKED CORN BREAD | |
3 c. cornmeal, self-rising 3/4 c. flour, self-rising 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper Pinch sugar 1/4 c. hot bacon drippings (oil or shortening can be used but it isn't the real thing) Milk Mix dry ingredients well. Add milk to the consistency of cake batter. Stir all lumps out. Add bacon drippings and stir well. Bake at 425 degrees in greased (with more drippings best) iron skillet or iron corn sticks pan 20-25 minutes. Check for browning as ovens vary. Best results when skillet is prewarmed before batter is put in. |
