PICKLED BEETS 
2 c. sliced beets
3/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. vinegar
5 to 6 whole cloves
Pinch of salt & pepper
Onion, thinly sliced

Make brine of sugar, vinegar and condiments; stir until sugar melts. Pour brine over beets, let stand 6 to 7 hours before serving.
