BROWNIE OATMEAL GEMS 
1 (8 oz.) pkg. semi sweet chocolate OR
2 (4 oz.) pkg. German sweet chocolate
1/4 c. butter
2/3 c. light or dark corn syrup
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/4 tsp. salt
4 c. quick oats
2/3 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 c. coarsely chopped walnuts
Melted chocolate, optional for dipping

In a 2 quart saucepan, stir chocolate and butter over low heat just until chocolate melts; remove from heat. Stir in corn syrup, eggs and salt.

In a large bowl, combine remaining ingredients. Pour chocolate mixture over dry ingredients and mix well.

Drop by tablespoons on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes (cookies will not change much during baking). Cool 5 minutes on cookie sheet. Remove; cool completely. Makes 36.
