SENATE BEAN SOUP 
1 lb. white beans
3 qts. water
Ham bone with some meat
1/2 c. mashed potatoes
3 med. onions
1 bunch celery
1 clove garlic
Salt and pepper to taste

Soak beans overnight. Next day drain and put beans in soup kettle with 3 quarts water and ham bone with meat. Bring to boil and simmer for 2 hours. Stir in mashed potatoes, onions (diced fine), celery (chopped fine) and minced clove of garlic. Simmer one more hour. Take out ham bone, dice meat on it and return to kettle. Add salt and pepper.
