MALTEX DATE BREAD 
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. dates or raisins (finely chopped)
1 c. Maltex (uncooked)
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 egg (beaten)
2 tbsp. melted shortening
1/2 to 3/4 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking soda

Combine boiling water, dates or raisins and Maltex in large bowl. Let stand about 15 minutes. Sift together flour, soda, sugar and salt. Add dry ingredients, beaten egg and shortening to date mixture. Mix only until blended. Turn into well greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 loaf pan. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 55 minutes or until it tests done. Let stand in pan 5 minutes. Remove and continue cooling on wire rack.
