GRANDMA'S GINGER CAKE 
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 c. Grandma's Molasses
2 eggs
1 c. hot water

Sift flour, salt, baking powder and spices together. Cream shortening, sugar and soda. Add molasses and 1/2 cup flour mixture. Stir eggs and beat well. Add hot water alternately with the other mixture and beat well. Bake in layers at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

ICING:

2 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
1/2 stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook to soft ball stage when dropped in cold water. Beat and ice cake.
