OLD FASHIONED DOUGHNUTS 
4 egg yolks or 2 whole eggs
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. shortening (soft)
3/4 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Beat in large bowl, eggs, sugar and shortening for 1 1/2 minutes. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices. Add 2 cups flour mixture to egg mixture. Beat until blended. Stir in remaining flour mixture. Chill dough for 2 hours in refrigerator. Roll dough out on floured surface. Cut with floured cutter. Fry at 375°F until brown, turning over once. Put on rack to cool. Store in plastic bags and freeze.
